Hi I'm Brett and I'm an addict...to chewing ice. If I kept going down the path I was -- chewing hard ice, I knew I'd soon need thousands of dollars in dental work, but now I feel like there's hope because I have the GE Profile Opal 2.0 nugget ice maker. If you don't know what nugget ice is, it's that soft, crunches nearly effortlessly miracle, that places like Sonic serve in their drinks. From what I've researched, you have 3 choices if you desire to have this ice in your home: Go to Sonic where they will seriously sell you a 10lb bag of this stuff for $2.00 (but it melts fast), make space and pay thousands for a loud, industrial-sized one (think dishwasher to full sized refrigerator dimensions and pretty seriously loud), or finally, you can buy the GE Profile Opal 2.0 nugget ice maker. Now, this thing is not small, not quiet, and not cheap, but if you're a true addict none of this matters because you'll have glorious nugget ice always available at your fingertips. Size: think a good coffee cup taller than your coffee maker and twice as deep and also a little wider - make sure you get the dimensions and figure out where this think is going before buying. Noise: not as loud as your ice chewing so who cares? No seriously, it makes a little whirring sound when making ice plus the sound of a few pellets of ice dropping every 30 seconds. It's not bad unless you live with someone overly sensitive to noise -- in that case, just hand them a cup of nugget ice to chew on. Care: the machine requires weekly or so cleaning just like every other ice machine not built into your home freezer. It takes about 5-10 minutes which is mostly just waiting around for the cleaning cycle to end so grab yourself a cup of nugget ice and deal with it or you aren't an addict. The best way to think about this thing is miniaturization of an industrial nugget ice maker -- it's 20% the size, 20% the noise, and about 20% of the cost but 100% makes genuine nugget ice.
